Ok, I know this will probably seem strange to some but I had never seen one of these until today.

The thing talks (rather bossy too) and gives you change and stuff. Though you still have to effortlessly drop your items into the waiting plastic bags conveniently held open by a rack placed right next to the electronic scanner.

There were a few human cashiers nearby, waiting by their cash machine, with nothing much to do while people lined up next to these things…

BURN is my first creator owned series and it started while I was in college doing my degree in illustration and design.

BURN is now available as trade paperback which is my collection of BURN comic books, reprinted in book format.

Burn was once human.

He also had a family and friends, until a metallic angel of death took everything from him. This mechanical monster, Shoftiel, was one of many living machines made to help humanity that revolted and declared war on their creators. It tore through Burn’s home and wreaked havoc on his city until the buildings collapsed, crashing down upon them.

Emerging from the rubble, Burn and Shoftiel discover their once separate bodies have become one — neither human nor machine, but a freak union of both. Internally their minds are caught in a raging battle for control. Just as mankind must struggle against the sentients for survival, Burn must find the strength to overcome Shoftiel’s genocidal programming to retain whatever’s left of his humanity.

This would probably look good on a Halloween card.

To make the image look like this was very simple. I manipulated it in Adobe Lightroom with some built-in development presets. First I applied a polarizer filter to it to darken the sky, and then I applied a preset called "dark sepia vignette" to give it a sort of ominous appearance.

The most amazing thing about Adobe Lightroom is that all changes or manipulations I make to an image are totally non-destructive. The changes are made to a "virtual copy". The original image remains intact. If I like the changes I made, I simply have to export the changed copy, but the original remains intact.

If you are a photographer and you don’t have a copy of Adobe Lightroom, I urge you to get a copy. It is the best image asset management software package I have ever used, and it is very easy to understand.

I love doing stuff like this.
